TEULADA MORAIRA COMMEMORATED THE INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

25/11/2019

Teulada Moraira commemorated the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women today. A manifesto was read on the town hall square at noon and various events took place at the IES during the day. Over the coming weeks, the Department of Equality has planned various events.

The manifesto, read by Mamen Botija, the local councillor for equality, reflected the institutional declaration all local parties had endorsed during the last plenary session. Victims were remembered and the public offices were urged to revise and amend the legislation in this regard.

The local council stressed its commitment to the prevention of male violence and inequality. The Department of Equality is currently running an awareness campaign to challenge citizens' reactions to macho behaviour and comments.

IES Teulada students had organised various activities such as a rally, a performance and a reading of a manifesto prepared by them. All events were about rejecting male violence and raising awareness. Afterwards, the students went to the Town Hall Square to listen to the reading of the official manifesto.

The campaign continues tomorrow, November 26th, with a lecture on "Prevention of gender-based violence in adolescence". The lecture will be given by the local police and the social service of the IES.

From the 2nd to the 13th of December, the municipal staff will attend a training session on "The application of gender equality in local administration".
