The Municipality of Teulada Moraira and the Festivities Committee San Vicente Ferrer 2020 have decided to cancel this year's Patron Saint's Festival due to the health crisis. According to tradition, the Patron Saint's festival should have taken place during Semana Santa and has been postponed to a date yet to be determined. However, after a thorough study of the situation and the expected evolution, it has been decided that the celebration will not take place before 2021.
This challenging but responsible decision leads to some changes in the structure of the organisation of the celebrations. It will mainly affect the age of the "Festeros". Therefore, the Children's Committee of 2021 will be composed of 7-year-olds, the Youth Committee of 20-year-olds and the Adult Committee of 46-year-olds. In 2021 the age groups remain the same as in 2020.
"It's a decision that we didn't want to make. But we need to act consistently and responsibly. There are many reasons to cancel the Patron Saint's Celebration this year, but we are doing it mainly for the sake of public health. We must use all resources and alleviate the health, social and economic crisis caused by COVID-19. This measure results in a change of tradition. In this case, it affects the age of the "Festeros". It is something unavoidable and, will hopefully go down well. The Municipality stands by all the "Festeros" and is convinced that we will be able to celebrate a great festival in 2021," says Aitor Llobell, Municipal Councillor for Festivities.
