The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) published the results of the awarding of the "Blue Flag" for 2020, and the three of Teulada Moraira, El Portet, La Ampolla and Les Platgetes are amongst them.
The seal of quality draws attention to civic attitude and behaviour towards the environment and improves those qualities. The award should lead to sustainable destinations, which in turn should attract responsible travellers and visitors.
In 2020, the beaches awarded the "Blue Flag" must comply with the hygiene and distance regulations of the relevant authorities, in addition to the criteria that apply to the regular bathing season, such as legality, cleanliness, safety, environmental education and beach management.
Another condition for obtaining the quality label is access to the beach for persons with reduced mobility. The beaches of El Portet and La Ampolla will have this kind of access starting July 1.
Carlos Martínez, Councillor for the Environment and responsible for the beaches, stressed: "We have made an effort to meet the requirements for obtaining this award. The label recognises the environmental quality and safety of our beaches and is an important recognition for our municipality".
Rosa Vila, Mayor of Teulada Moraira, added: "Year after Year our beaches have been awarded the "Blue Flag" thanks to the excellent quality of our coastline and the efforts made to meet the necessary and required prerequisites. It is of the utmost importance for our neighbours and visitors. Because of COVID-19, the award is essential and a sign of confidence in our clean and safe beaches".
